Dee Thwaite

I have a deep connection with the sea, and surrounding landscapes.  My work is a personal response to being at these locations. In particular I am drawn to overcast skies, storms and the changing seasons.  I use bold, expressive marks, creating lots of movement in my work.

"I love to paint expressive skies, storms and coastal landmarks.  My work hopes to capture movement in the clouds and shifting light."

I take inspiration from local coastlines and surrounding landmarks in Yorkshire.  I work fast and intuitively across multiple pieces, whilst referring to my sketchbooks and photos taken on site.

I build up layers, using Acrylic paint, oil pastels, inks, graphite and charcoal.

I studied Art A-level at school alongside music, and later a music degree, specialising in singing. I have often found music and art to be interlinked. Whilst raising our 3 children at home, I have come back to painting in recent years. This has reignited my passion for Art, and I now work from my home studio.

"Painting in itself has become such a healing and therapeutic part of my life and one of my greatest passions."
